| Canary Island Divers' Dive Sites |
| |
There is a vast variety of dive sites on Lanzarote, especially off the south and east facing coasts. Most dive sites can conveniently be accessed from shore but there are some where a boat dive is just more relaxing! We at CID Lanza offer a good selection of both, which ensures flexibility and variety. By constantly looking for amazing new dive sites we are making sure that we offer you a good selection of different sites.
Please have a look below for our most popular ones:
| |
| Playa Chica Reef (6m - 16m) - PdC |
| For beginners or check out dives - this is the perfect spot! |
In the protected bay thousands of excited breams and wrasses are circling the divers, and just outside giant rays and Angelsharks are frequent visitors! A family of file fish has made up their home just to the 'left' and look out on the rocks for Nudibranches and Arrow crabs! During late afternoon a shoal of Barracudas uses the sheltered waters as a hunting ground and the sand is slowly but surely turning into an anemone flower garden which ensures a stunning night dive! |
| |
| Temple Hall Wreck (6m - 12m) - Arrecife |
For beginners or wreck fanatics!
This huge cargo wreck has found its final destination just north of Arrecife in a shallow bay. As it rests perfectly upright the broken up hull invites divers to explore the depths of its interior. There are two parts, one breaking the surface and towering over the divers, creating a mystic atmosphere! |
| |
| Flamingo Wall (6m - 18m) - Playa Blanca |
This is our favourite dive site in Playa Blanca. With a maximum of 18m this is a beautiful bimble along a beautiful wall which hundreds of Breams and other small reef fish call their home! Look out for angelsharks and rays on the sand! |
| |
| Los Lobos (16m - 22m) - natural reserve between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura |
A boat trip down south to close proximity of Fuerteventura. This amazing dive site away from the norm is teeming with glasseye fish, shoals of barracuda and nosy atlantic triggerfish. Under tables of lava the sunshine in the clear waters filters through millions of little openings in the ceiling of these fascinating mushroom like reefs. |
| |
| Rene's Wreck (18m - 30m) - PdC |
A very nice relaxed dive starting off in the sheltered bay of Playa Chica and leading towards the edge off the reef where a small wreck can be found. The edge of the reef is at 18m and you will be welcomed by one of our friendliest groupers on the island. For the more advanced a nice swim through can be found at about 30m! This site is frequently visited by travelling through sting rays and Angelsharks. |
| |
| Puerto Calero Reef / Harbour Wall (12m - 30m) |
| Puerto Calero's harbour wall sits on a shallow reef which makes it a brilliant dive for all levels. Between the boulders Octopuses, Moray eels and a vast quantity of shoals of small fish can be found. Angelshark use the boulders to sleep on and further down, out in the blue large sting rays are cruising by! There is a reef to the left where blennies and rocklings are at home. |
| |
| Black Beach (12m - 35m) - PdC |
Featuring an abundance of crustacians, Moray eels and Octopuses, this is a popular night dive site!
But not just at night this is a very versatile dive site! Going to the right at about 25m stunning overhangs and little caves can be found in which groupers and rays are resting. Between the rock formation Angelsharks can be found and make sure you look around to see the mighty Barracuda! To the left along a wall it makes a brilliant shallow dive with lots of fish life! |
| |
| Chaco de Palo (12m - 35m) - Mala |
| The brilliant visability of this dive site and its gray rock formations with its white underwater beaches turn this site into a very special half day trip up north! It can be dived to the left to the 'Affenfelsen' (monkey's rock) or to the right. Both are sites which are a must when diving on Lanzarote! |
To the left the breath taking contrast between the dark lava formations and the white sand turn this dive into an Odyssey of the depth where often angelsharks and rays of all sizes can be seen resting on the sand! The monkey's rock to the right features tunnels with stunning exits into the blue and caves for the more advanced. Have you visited the big old moray and the comber eel in the cave? With just 12m depth this is a perfect and exciting second dive with many highlights! |
| |
| Punto Moro (25m - 40m) - Mala |
Mountaineers welcome! This is a favourite under the brave at heart! Getting in is easy - coming out is via a rope and thus unfortunately rather tricky!
The beauty and versatility of this dive site is looking for its match! Big fish, swim throughs, tunnels, skull cave from 14m down to 30m - something for the adventurers! Scary ole' Jack - the hugest octopus we have ever seen |
| |
| Chaco de Natural (35 - 40m) - Mala |
| Just recently we have added this stunning dive to our programme! Again, as typical for up north, this is not the easiest of entries and exits but well worth it! |
First a little bimble over shallow lava formations with many caves and swim throughs in order to reach a wall - Huge shoals of barracuda, cow and striped breams will guide the way!
Throw yourself down towards the black coral bushes but don't forget to stop off and swim into the huge cavern at whose end millions of shrimps turn the colourful walls alive! A red coral is just one other hightlight of this dive! |
| |
| The Tiñosa Wrecks (15m - 30m) - PdC |
These Tuna fishing boats were sunk at this dive site just south of Puerto del Carmen. One sits in about 20m and the other in 30m. With the visability usually being extremely good at Punta Tiñosa, this is a dive to remember! The wrecks are home to a huge variety of fish life - from small to big! As the access from shore is not easy this makes a great boat dive or a beautiful day out on the sea on a sailing boat (ask us for more information on our sailing trips!). |
| |
| Ritchie's Reef (18m - 40m) - PdC |
| This dive site garuantees a very diversified dive! There is an abundance of fish life including Groupers, sting rays, Angelshark, Trumpet fish plus a very beautiful Tree coral in an alcove at around 22m. Sponge encrusted rocks, lots of anemones and black coral ensure a very colourful dive! |

| A lava flow full of crevaces and alcoves perfect for exploring for a huge variety of colourful anemones, Uniquehorn shrimps and those precious stunning Yellow tree corals of which two can be found |
at this brilliant dive site - one of them in as little as 20m! This is a paradise for photographers with its majestic overhangs and caverns which feature the usual big fish like sting rays and Groupers but as well shoals of cardinal fish and many Moray eels this has to be a favorite of every diver! Beginners can linger around between 6m and 18m and the more experienced can go south to the reef and explore the rocky outcrops and the wall going down to 40m plus. |
| |
| Old Town Harbour Wrecks (18m - 40m) - PdC |
| The top wreck - the Masso - sits on top of the reef at around 19m and still has a two metre brass propeller. This wreck is intact and thus makes a wonderful wreck dive for Open Water divers outside and for Wreck Specialty divers inside! If you follow the edge of the reef down there are several more wrecks which range from a wooden crushed wreck at 24 metres to a skeletal fishing boat at around 37 metres - overall there are about eight wrecks on this site and in order to explore it in its enterity several dives are needed. |
| |
| The Blue Hole (25m - 40m) - PdC |
One of the most famous dive sites, the Blue Hole is a must on a diving holiday to Lanzarote! Formed by a bubble in the lava flow this is a stunnig swim through, leading the diver from the top of the reef at around 20m down to the opening into the blue at around 30m! Have a look to your right while swimming through to say hello to the local Grouper! Coming out of the swim through shoals of Damsels and breams welcome you to explore the reef with its stunning overhangs to the right and the left! |
| |
| The Cathedral (25m - 40m) - PdC |
The other famous dive site on Lanzarote is the Cathedral which features a beautiful cavern dive with the ceiling being covered by thousands of colourful Knobby corals, sponges, Jewel anemones and Tube worms! A torch is a must to be fully able to enjoy the stunning colours and to explore the cavern right to the back where in corners Black corals can be found! | |
| Grouper's Alley (30m - 40m) - PdC |
Grouper's Alley (or as some of you might know it: 'No Shrimp Cave' ;-) is one of a series of dive sites for experienced divers. It is one of the most spectacular dive sites of Lanzarote with a stunning topography and huge nosy friendly Groupers coming as close as 10 cm to the divers!
Nudibranches and a good variety of anemones make this a beautiful relaxing deep dive with lots to see! |
| |
| Casa Chuchu - House of Rays (30m - 40m) - PdC |
| Casa Chuchu or translated the House of the rays is a magnificant deep dive site often used for technical diving.
