Once you are sure that the requirements have been met you need to book your place on the Canary Island Divers IDC program. Please contact us first in order to make sure that there is still space available on the program you are interested in!!!

A 20% deposit is required to reserve your place - deposits may be paid online (by far the simplest & easiest method) or by bank transfer - contact us for our bank details. When we have received your booking and IDC deposit we will reconfirm your booking by e-mail, fax or telephone.

First - Check that you have all the necessary documentation

You will need documented proof (bring all your cert cards / certificates) of all your diving certifications from Open water to Divemaster / Assistant Instructor (and any non PADI certifications). If any are missing, please contact PADI immediately and get the course certification date, instructor name and number and your student certification number.

Ensure you bring with you a current (within the previous 12 months!) medical stating that you are fit to dive. You will need to present your logbook and show proof of 60 logged dives for the IDC and 100 logged dives for the IE.

If you run into problems please let us know asap and we will try and help.

Purchase the latest editions of the following PADI materials:

Instructor manual, IDC candidate Workbook, Open Water and Confined Water cue slates, Confined and Open Water Preparation Slates, the RDP – table, wheel and eRDP versions, all Student manuals (Open Water, Adventures in Diving, Rescue Diver/2004 edition and Divemaster) and the Open Water, Rescue Diver and Divemaster exams.

To enable you to complete the knowledge reviews you will also need to beg, borrow preferably not steal “Law and the diving professional”, “The business of Diving”, “Children and Scuba Diving” and “Best of the undersea Journal”.

Make sure you are familiar with all student materials, especially if it’s been a while since you have used them or new editions have been issued.

If you already have an instructor manual make sure it is up to date with all relevant Training Bulletins. All training Bulletins can be down loaded from the Pro section of the PADI website – if in any doubt please contact us.

If you plan to arrive on Lanzarote a week or more prior to the IDC don’t worry we can supply you with all the necessary pre reading material at knock down prices and it gives you plenty of time to do the independent learning!! But please order prior to arriving to ensure we have all the materials!

PADI materials for the IDC

Your IDC Candidate Workbook

Buy your own copy of the Candidate Workbook and read through the pages "How to use this Workbook”.

Next go to Section 1 "Independent Learning" - Here you will find the 16 IDC Knowledge Reviews which must be completed prior to the start of the IDC!!! At the beginning of each Knowledge Review you will find listed the necessary pre-study reading assignments, which you need to successfully answer the questions. These assignments can be found in your Instructor manual, IDC Candidate Workbook, The Best of the Undersea Journal, The Law & the Diving Professional, The Business of Diving and Children and Scuba Diving.

If you have any questions regarding the reading assignments please contact us.

On which PADI course is Instructor Level Dive Theory taught??

Answer: The IDC – WRONG ANSWER!
Answer: The PADI Divemaster Course – CORRECT ANSWER!!!

Therefore please ensure you are confident with your level of dive theory knowledge BEFORE the IDC!

The best way to do this is to work your way through The Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving, the Diving Knowledge Workbook (The CD-ROM Encyclopedia includes both) and the Divemaster exams. You will have ample to keep you busy during the IDC without having to worry about dive theory questions such as "what are partial pressures" or "how do I find minimum surface intervals with the RDP Wheel?”

You know you have mastered the information when not only can you answer the question correctly but also explain WHY each of the other answers is wrong!!!

Get wet!!! Go Dive as much as possible - nothing replaces real life experience!

Assist your PADI instructor as often as possible. If you arrive on Lanzarote in plenty of time you can shadow our Instructors when they are conducting training courses.

Practice all your skills - especially the 20 skills of the PADI skill circuit.
Concentrate especially on your Mask skills, buoyancy skills (hovering and fin pivots), out of air skills (Buddy Breathing, Alternate Air Source and CESA) and your removal and replacement skills (scuba unit and weight belt - both at the surface and underwater).

Remember although an Open Water Diver can "do the skill", this is usually a long way off from the "demonstration quality" expected of an Instructor. When was the last time you DEMONSTRATED any of these…???

Practice Rescue Diver Exercise #7: "Unconscious Diver on the surface". You can review an excellent demonstration of this on The PADI Rescue Diver DVD.A role model demonstration and workshop of Rescue Diver Exercise #7 is included in the IDC Prep course.

Check all your dive equipment and make sure everything is serviced, up to date and ready for action.

Remember the more prepared you are the less of a workload you will have during the IDC, leading to a more relaxed and enjoyable IDC!!!

Finally…… RELAX!!!   relaxing before the IDC
