| Lanzarote is and has been for many years a very popular holiday destination. Below our CID Lanza team made a list of our favourite sight seeing attractions: |
| |
Montañas del Fuego – Islote de Hilario This has to be the heart and the soul of Lanzarote! This range of volcanoes dominates the view from afar and is one of the most fascinating sights of the island: not just because of the intensity of its colours (the reds, yellows and black) but as well because of its devastating history of catastrophic force that once destroyed in an instant the livelihood of most of the islanders. At the top of Islote de Hilario where the lingering volcanic heat remains hottest is a restaurant called El Diablo (the devil) in which the chef is cooking the restaurant’s meat and fish over a well which descends into the fiery depth of the still active volcano. |

Fundacion Cesar Manrique The artist’s own home is half submerged in a string of volcanic bubbles in the rock and includes displays of his tremendous artistic skills. After his death the house became an art gallery, consisting mainly of his private collection of his own but as well works of Miro and Picasso. |

Jameos del Agua This is one of the most intriguing sights of Lanzarote and of course created by the famous Cesar Manrique. It is an underground volcanic tunnel whose roof has partly collapsed and which the artist turned into a restaurant with an underground lake containing the famous tiny, blind white crabs which live in its perfectly transparent water. The air inside the beautiful astonishing complex is always still and filled with the singing of tiny birds. A large cave accommodates a 500 seat auditorium which is said to be have the best acoustics of any concert hall in the world! |

Cuevas de los Verdes The green caves are a 2 km long walkway through the longest lava cave system in the world. Enhanced with music, natural illusions and lighting this vividly coloured cave system is a must for every visitor to the island. |
|
| |
El Golfo Once a harbour, volcanic eruptions created a bar which is now dividing the lagoon from the sea and thus turned it in yet another astonishing fusion of colours. The water in the lagoon is because of several factors a deep, intense emerald hue which is especially fascinating when the sun catches the water. It lies in deep contrast to the surrounding amphitheatre of volcano and the deep blue of the Atlantic ocean. |

Playa Papagayo There are many beautiful beaches on the island, but Playa Papagayo is a series of little bays all with their own little beach. Whether it is snorkeling in the beautiful clear water of just sun bathing on the golden sand, this remote place is just the one to fully enjoy a day on the beach! |

Teguise The former capital of Lanzarote is nowadays a wonderful traditional little village in the middle of the island. It's charming little streets and alleys together with its traditional architecture are a photographer's dream. Be aware that on Sunday's Teguise is the busiest town on the island which it owns to its famous Sunday Market, which is well worth a visit and if it is just to look at the many many stalls with their colourful products or to watch the traditional dancers in the village square. |

Mirador del Rio This breathtaking lookout in the North of Lanzarote offers the most stunning views of the Chinijo Archipelago which consists a little goup of islands including La Graciosa, Alegranza and Montana Clara. Having been used in the 16th century by the island's settlers to keep a lookout for marauding pirates, this spot was turned by Cesar Manrique in a restaurant which offers its visitors the island's most stunning view! |
